Outlook is a professional web service developed by Microsoft to manage personal information. Users use Outlook to manage their incoming and outgoing emails. It is essential for the user to keep Outlook updated so that there is a steady inflow of emails and all mailboxes are updated regularly. But sometimes it is not so and the user wonders why is Outlook mailbox not updating from the exchange. 

When faced with such a situation where Outlook inbox not updating, the user notices that the content and the email aren’t getting refreshed across all mailboxes. With the methods given below, you will be able to fix the Outlook Inbox not Updating issue. 

1. CHECK SERVER STATUS

Checking the status of your server should be the first and foremost step. Sometimes the exchange server could be down for maintenance or for backup. A poor connection could also be preventing Outlook from updating and synchronizing the shared mailbox with the server. You can access the OWA app to check if the server is down or if the issue is with your Outlook account. To fix this, unplug the network cable, replug after some time, and reconnect with the WiFi to check if you’re able to access the web browser. 

2. MANUALLY SYNCHRONIZE THE SHARED MAILBOX

Open the Send/Receive tab in Outlook. Click on the Update folder option to synchronize the user and the shared mailbox with the exchange server. However, manually doing this means repeatedly doing this every time you open Outlook. For a permanent solution, enable automatic sync in the settings if you haven’t done so already.

3. DISABLE DOWNLOAD SHARED FOLDERS CACHING

By disabling download shared folders, all shared folders will go online and will get updated directly on the server. 

4. WORK IN BOTH OFFLINE AND ONLINE MODE

A simple step such as this can resolve the error of Outlook inbox not updating. From the Send/ Receive tab, click on the Work Offline tab to enable offline working. Close Outlook and restart it after some time. Again, from the Send/Receive tab, disable Work Offline mode and return to Online state. 

5. CLEAR OFFLINE ITEMS FROM OUTLOOK

You can use Outlook offline with the help of the cached data which is stored in Outlook. This cached data helps with the performance too. But when the offline items do not match with the online items, then that could be why your Outlook inbox is not updating. So clear all offline items as fast as possible.
